The organizers are pleased to announce the “1st Workshop - Bone  as Engineering Material" (BEM) which will be held in the Bioengineering Graduate Program (PPGIB - USP / EESC - FMRP - IQSC) from 12 to 13 May 2011 at the School of Engineering of Sao Carlos, University of São Paulo at Sao Carlos, Brazil.

The bone can be modeled as an elastic, heterogeneous, anisotropic, multiscaled material with complex structure that may present an orthotropic, transversely, isotropic or isotropic symmetry. Theoretical, experimental and computational models have being developed in order to characterize the mechanical behavior of the bone. The BEM aims to disseminate research on the study of mechanical properties of bone as well as to stimulate high level research by inspiring and motivating those who work in this area of knowledge. The workshop will include sessions on structure, function and bone modeling, focusing on characterization of mechanical behavior and clinical procedures to evaluate bone quality.

We invite you to participate in the BEM Workshop and enjoy stimulating thematic sessions as well as our hospitality in the city of São Carlos.

Sincerely,

The Organizing Committee.
